# Deploy Your BotSmith AI Chatbot in Microsoft Teams

> Connect BotSmith to Microsoft Teams via Azure Bot Service so your agent can respond to messages in Teams channels and one-on-one chats.

BotSmith integrates with Microsoft Teams through Azure Bot Service. Once connected, your BotSmith agent can respond to messages in Teams channels and one-on-one chats — giving your team an AI assistant inside the tools they already use every day.

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

* A **Microsoft Azure account** with permission to create resources. Sign up at [azure.microsoft.com](https://azure.microsoft.com) if you don't have one.
* **Microsoft Teams admin permissions** to install apps in your organization's Teams environment (or use a personal Teams account for testing).

## Step 1: Register an Azure Bot

1. Sign in to the [Azure portal](https://portal.azure.com).
2. In the search bar, type **Azure Bot** and select it from the results.
3. Click **Create** and fill in the resource details (subscription, resource group, bot handle, and region).
4. Under **Microsoft App ID**, choose **Create new Microsoft App ID**.
5. Click **Review + Create**, then **Create**.
6. Once deployment is complete, open the new Azure Bot resource.
7. Go to **Configuration** and note the **Microsoft App ID** — this is your Bot App ID.
8. Click **Manage** next to the App ID to open the App Registration. Go to **Certificates & secrets → New client secret**, add a description, and click **Add**. Copy the secret **Value** immediately — it will not be shown again. This is your App Password.

    * **Bot App ID** — Paste the Microsoft App ID from your Azure Bot resource's **Configuration** page.
    * **App Password** — Paste the client secret value you copied from the App Registration.
    * **Tenant ID** *(optional)* — Your Azure Active Directory tenant ID. Find it in the Azure portal under **Azure Active Directory → Overview**. Leave blank to allow the bot to work across multiple tenants.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the integration">
    Click **Save Integration**. The integration panel displays your **Teams Messaging Endpoint URL** — copy it for the next step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable the integration">
    Toggle **Enable Integration** on.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Step 3: Set the Messaging Endpoint in Azure

Tell Azure where to forward incoming Teams messages.

1. In the Azure portal, open your **Azure Bot** resource.
2. Go to **Configuration**.
3. In the **Messaging endpoint** field, paste the BotSmith Teams webhook URL shown in the integration panel.
4. Click **Apply**.

## Step 4: Add the Bot to Teams

1. In the [Microsoft Teams admin center](https://admin.teams.microsoft.com), go to **Teams apps → Manage apps**.
2. Search for your bot by name (the bot handle you registered in Azure).
3. Install the bot into the team or chat where you want it active.

Alternatively, in the Microsoft Teams app, open the **Apps** section, search for your bot by name, and add it to a team or chat directly.

Once installed, team members can open a direct chat with the bot or mention it in a channel to start a conversation.

## Testing the Integration

After adding the bot to Teams, send it a direct message or mention it in a channel. Your BotSmith agent should reply within a few seconds.

If the bot does not respond, check that:

* The **Messaging endpoint** in Azure matches the URL shown in BotSmith exactly.
* The **Bot App ID** and **App Password** you entered in BotSmith are correct and have not expired.
* The integration is toggled **on** in BotSmith.
* Your chatbot is set to **Active** in BotSmith settings.
