# BotSmith Notification Preferences and Alert Settings

> Configure in-app, email, and browser push notifications in BotSmith so you never miss new conversations, usage warnings, or performance alerts.

BotSmith can notify you through three channels — in-app notifications, email, and browser push notifications — when important events happen, such as a new conversation starting, your message credits running low, or a performance issue with one of your agents. You control exactly which events trigger each channel from the Notification Preferences page.

## Accessing Notification Preferences

To open your notification settings, navigate to **Account Settings → Notification Preferences**.

Changes to email and in-app preferences are applied when you click **Save Preferences** at the bottom of the page. Browser push notification permissions are handled separately through your browser.

## In-App Notifications

In-app notifications appear inside BotSmith while you are using the product. The bell icon in the top navigation bar shows a red badge with the count of unread notifications.

Two settings control in-app notifications:

* **Enable in-app notifications** — Master toggle for all in-app alerts. When disabled, no notifications appear in the notification center.
* **Notification sound** — Plays an audio cue when a new notification arrives. This setting is only active when in-app notifications are enabled.

## Email Notifications

Email notifications send alerts to your registered email address for key events. A master **Enable email notifications** toggle controls the entire email channel. When enabled, you can individually turn on or off the following event types:

* **New conversations** — An email each time a visitor starts a new chat session with one of your agents.
* **High-priority messages** — Alerts for messages that have been flagged as high-priority within a conversation.
* **Performance alerts** — Notifications when an agent's performance metrics fall outside normal thresholds.
* **Usage warnings** — Alerts when your monthly message credit consumption approaches or reaches your plan limit.

You can also set an **Email digest frequency** — choose **Never**, **Daily**, or **Weekly** — to receive a periodic summary email instead of, or in addition to, individual alerts.

<Tip>
  Enable usage warnings so you receive advance notice before your agents stop responding. This gives you time to upgrade your plan before your credits run out.
</Tip>

## Browser Push Notifications

Browser push notifications let BotSmith alert you even when you are not actively looking at the page. They are supported in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Notification Preferences">
    Navigate to **Account Settings → Notification Preferences** and scroll to the **Browser Push Notifications** section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable notifications">
    Click **Enable Notifications**. Your browser will display a permission prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Allow in your browser">
    Click **Allow** in your browser's permission dialog. BotSmith will register your browser and send a test notification to confirm everything is working.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Once enabled, a **Test Notification** button lets you verify that push notifications are working at any time. You can also click **Disable Push** to turn them off without revoking browser-level permissions.

<Note>
  If you previously denied permission, you can re-enable notifications by clicking the lock icon in your browser's address bar, going to **Site Settings → Notifications**, and setting it to **Allow**.
</Note>

## In-App Notification Center

The bell icon in the top navigation bar opens the Notification Center panel. A red badge on the icon shows the count of unread notifications.

From the Notification Center you can:

* **View all notifications** — A chronological list of recent events including new conversations, usage alerts, performance issues, and system events.
* **Filter by Unread** — Switch between **All** and **Unread** tabs to focus on notifications that still need your attention.
* **Mark individual notifications as read** — Click the checkmark icon on a notification, or click the notification itself to mark it as read. If the notification has a linked destination, clicking it also navigates you to the relevant page.
* **Delete notifications** — Click the trash icon on any notification to remove it from your list.
* **Mark all as read** — Click **Mark all read** at the top of the panel to clear the badge and mark every notification as read at once.

The badge count updates in real time as new notifications arrive.
